Business Central

Setting up Continia in Business Central the way your finance team works

You run Business Central and no longer want to process purchase invoices, expense claims or bank files by hand. Or Continia is already in place, but invoices get stuck, approvals stall and nobody quite knows why. Either way, you want a setup your people understand and that keeps working after an update.

I am an independent Business Central consultant (Van Oosten Advies B.V., based in 's-Gravenpolder, Zeeland) and have spent five years on Business Central implementations and consultancy in wholesale, steel, manufacturing and maritime, for companies in the Netherlands and Belgium. I have implemented Continia Document Capture, Continia Expense Management and Continia Banking hands-on, including in a Business Central environment with eleven legal entities. I start from the standard: first what Continia and Business Central do out of the box, and customisation only where the standard demonstrably falls short. You have one point of contact, and that is the same person who does the work in the system.

When this fits you

The question usually starts with one of these situations.

  • You want to start using Continia Document Capture, Expense Management or Banking alongside Business Central.
  • Continia is installed, but the setup does not work well: documents are processed wrongly, approvals sit waiting or the bank does not reconcile.
  • You are moving Business Central from on-premises to SaaS and Continia has to come along.
  • You run several legal entities and want document flows and approvals properly arranged for each of them.
  • You already have a partner and want a second opinion on the Continia setup or the proposal for it.

What the engagement covers

Installing is the easy part. This is the whole of it.

  • Discovery: which documents, expense claims and bank files come in today, through which channel, and who handles them.
  • Setup of Continia Document Capture: document categories, recognition, vendor matching and processing in Business Central.
  • Approval flows for purchase invoices and expense claims, matched to your authorisation limits and your organisation.
  • Setup of Continia Expense Management, so expense claims follow one fixed route from submission to approval to posting.
  • Setup of Continia Banking: the bank connection, importing statements and preparing payments.
  • Testing with your own documents and exceptions, and training per role for the people who scan, approve or post.

What you get

A working setup, and people who know how to use it.

  • Continia solutions configured around your processes and tested with your own documents.
  • Documented approval flows, so it is clear who approves what and up to which amount.
  • A bank integration that runs statements and payments through Business Central.
  • Work instructions per role, in the language of your organisation.
  • A handover to your key users or your support partner.

What it is not

  • Not customisation where the Continia and Business Central standard already does the job. Where a setting is enough, it stays a setting.
  • Not an official representation of Continia. I work independently and name the products only to make clear where my experience lies.
  • Not a go-live while testing with your own documents is unfinished.
  • Not an ongoing helpdesk with on-call cover, unless we agree that separately.

Frequently asked questions

Which Continia solutions have you worked with?

I have implemented Continia Document Capture, Continia Expense Management and Continia Banking hands-on in Business Central, including in an environment with eleven legal entities. I hold four Continia certifications and am Microsoft certified as a Dynamics 365 Business Central Functional Consultant and a Power Platform Solution Architect Expert.

Our Continia setup does not work well. Can you fix it?

Yes. I first look at how the setup is built today and where it goes wrong, and only then change anything. Whether the problem sits in the settings, the approval flow or the data is what that review shows. Where possible, I fix it within the standard.

Does Continia move with us from on-premises to SaaS?

Yes, and it belongs in the migration plan. I include Continia in the runbook: what carries over, what has to be set up again, and what we test after the move before you process documents and payments again.

We already have a partner. Can you still help?

Yes. I can give a second opinion on the Continia setup or on the proposal and scope, or sit on your side next to your partner and keep an eye on the setup. Which shape fits is something we settle in the first conversation.

Setting up or fixing Continia?

Tell me which Continia solutions you use or plan to use, and where it currently pinches. In a first conversation we go through what is needed and which role suits me.
